RAMBLING WITH THE EDITOR - Tony Brockmeyer

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

The next edition of the First Capitol News will be on December 3, 2005 due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.

RECALL RECALL

Recall, recall everywhere just because of where the Mayor sits. It appears the Mayor was “miffed” to the point that she has supported and been active in the recall efforts of Dottie Greer and Mark Brown. The reason, Mayor York was not sitting where she wants. You see when the new council was elected one of the first things they did was put the City Clerk who works for them and is an extension of the council on the dais and moved the Mayor to the administrative desk on the floor. It appears most in the City of St. Charles don’t understand the Charter and believe the Mayor is in charge. In reality, and this can be confirmed by reading the Charter, the City of St. Charles has a weak Mayor form of government. St. Peters and O’Fallon have a different set of rules. They work from written state law, not a self rule charter city.

The Charter states the Mayor “may take part in the council meetings” it isn’t required, yet the Mayor and her attack dogs would have you the residents believe that she is in charge and deserves to be at the head of the table. In life there are those who can see past the little things like where I sit, and move forward. I guess the Mayor is someone who can’t. Instead she has created a negative firestorm and divided a city. This is York’s way of politics, her way or I will kick and scream until I get my way.

WATCH COUNCIL RERUNS

If you have an opportunity, watch the reruns of the November 14th City Council meeting on Cable Channel 20. A group of people including, Linda Meyer, Roland Whetzel, Paula Eberhardt, TR Hughes, Tom Hayden, Ed Watkins, Kevin Kast, and the Kielty family were in attendance. They were there to attempt to intimidate the Council into setting a recall election for Councilwoman Greer in February instead of April. They want it in February because there is usually a lower turnout for the February elections as opposed to the April elections. All the while they are accusing Council members of intimidation, they themselves are attempting to intimidate the Council. The show included theatrics by one of the Kielty sons and lies from several other people. What they really want is total control of the City and it appears they will do anything and say anything to achieve their goals. More of this story can be read next week on our web log.
