Bill To Renew City Administrator’s Contract Fails

A bill to renew the contract for City Administrator Allan Williams for another year failed on a five to five vote at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

Williams, who was hired last December, has vowed to fight.

Although Williams and the Mayor have been saying the City Charter requires eight votes of the City Council or six votes plus the Mayor to fire him, legal experts in the County say Williams is not being fired, his contract is just not being renewed and he does not stand a chance in Court.

Williams has angered many members of the Council over his expense account, what appears to be excessive days off, his refusal to move his family to the City, failure to respond to resident complaints, and what they consider belligerent behavior to citizens and Council members.
