Bomb Squad Called To Denny's on Fifth, Saturday Afternoon
The First Capitol News photo by Tony Brockmeyer shows the St. Charles County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad Robot removing a suitcase from the front door area of Denny’s Restaurant at 1423 South Fifth Street on Saturday afternoon. According to Captain Gerry Pollard of the St. Charles Police Department they were called to Denny’s Saturday afternoon by the manager who told the police an unattended suitcase was found at their front door between a trash can and a pole. The St. Charles police requested assistance from the Sheriff’s Bomb Squad who responded to the restaurant. An attempt was made to x-ray the suitcase but it’s location made it difficult. The bomb squad robot was then sent in to retrieve the suitcase. It removed the suitcase to another area of the parking lot where the police were able to x-ray it. According to Captain Pollard the x-ray did not indicate the presence of any explosives so they opened the suitcase using the water shotgun on the robot. No explosives were discovered.
